Information
Overview
The PLAY Youth Debate Club is a playground for young thinkers to express and challenge each others ideas and notions in a safe space where they’re given the stage to do so. From formal to political and parliamentary debates, all are applied to give the members a wide range of environments to experiment with.
The target audience for these debates would be primarily young adults in the end of high school to university age ranges. Anyone of any age and backgrounds are welcome to participate within limits (no debates between unequal footings such as professors versus students). We are targeting primarily students because we want currently developing minds to be active in an environment that can challenge their status quo and present new perspectives from a diverse background of participants.
The specifics and the scheduling would include – on paper – bi-monthly debates to monthly lengthier debates with weekly mock/roleplay debates that serves as a workshop/practice for newcomers or participants who want to exercise their critical thinking skills. The bigger monthly debates would be carried out in teams of elected individuals by the board of the club, and they would get limited time to prepare for the debate prior. These debates would also be livestreamed or at least recorded and uploaded onto YouTube and other platforms for educational purposes. The winners of the debates would be rewarded with PLAY Youth merch and possibly opportunities within larger debating organizations, if we reach that point.
